Automatic Intelligent Tagging *idea*

Posted on Oct 4th, 2006 by flex22 : Mystic flex22
I originally posted this idea ages ago, here: Automatic Intelligent Tagging

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess seeing as though you’ve signed up to this idea as well, that you know what I’m talking about, lol.Only had to say that because I’m not even sure if this is what it’s called, so let me clarify what I had in mind:

People may forget or just don’t bother to add tags to their blog posts and photo’s, etc.So I was wondering if there is a way to somehow scan a blog post, checking the frequency a word is used, and then when a word shows up x number of times then automatically tag it.My thinking is that the frequency with which a word is used, often determines what the blog is about.

Also could you scan the blogs and then whenever a particular word shows up, ie: ‘Commitment’ then that is automatically tagged. The words that you deem necessary to be tagged would be a central decision and not down to the individual blogger.

This in itself is a philosophical discussion, and that is assuming it is even possible.Centrally picking the words you wish to have tagged when they arise, powers home our (those who ‘get it’) mission. However I think that needs to be balanced with what it is people are actually talking about.Of course they most likely will be talking about changing things for the better, etc, and therefore things will match up perfectly.

Choosing which words are to be tagged automatically will advance that core message, and fade out the type of blogs that are of no benefit (they won’t ‘spread’).
However the benefit of tagging just whatever appears the most frequently sure would help in the evolution of the community.Sure the real head honcho's here are bright people, but personally I see no better way of evolving and prospering than by using the collective’s power.

I suppose the question is: Do you know it all?

Personally I can quite comfortably say that I don’t, but I’ve got a ‘good idea’ ;)
I like to be on the leading edge, but I’m not naive. It’s about finding that delicate balance between allowing people to express themselves freely while encouraging them to express the best of themselves. How tagging is implemented will have a great impact in this area.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since writing the above I have actually come across a utility that allows you to add your text to it and it gives you a list of tag suggestions automatically.Unfortunately I can't for the life of me remember what is was called, lol.I'll get back to you ASAP!

Cheers!

EDIT: Just remembered, the tag utility is:  tagyu!

Hey hey flex22 - been awhile since I been about.  You done got a great idea here and I have a thought to add/ask about before proceeding to the guru wizards.
What if we could add tags to others stuff that make sense to us?  Like I tag my stuff so I can search and locate it easier.  If something another zaadzter puts up is something I want to remember I could remember what they tagged it or with this idea -add a tag of my own.  What do you think?

“What do you think?”

I think that's a great idea also. You could merge that into my Tag Inventory idea, so we get our current list of tags up, and then choose from them quickly and easily, or add a completely new tag.

I love your enthusiasm HeyOK, you sound like me.However, if you read my last post in the “Tag Inventory” thread, you'll see that I got pretty pissed off that my awesome idea was not read correctly and that from then on it was ignored.People could at least read what I actually took the time out to suggest, I must say!
So here's the deal HeyOK!:

Fuck em! Yes, fuck em! all! If anyone think's I'm going to bang my head against a wall for any fucker, then they're very much mistaken. So if they don't listen first time, then tough, their loss! In fact the more I think about it, the more I realise that they're just not worthy of hearing my ideas. So from now on that's me done with suggesting, here, any more of the limitless awesome ideas I have, and that's me done with wasting any more of my time offering them for others thoughts.

I leave these blogs here, because they're already written. But I won't be writing any more ideas. So HeyOK, you go for it matey. You never know, they might just listen to you.
Personally, lifes too short to live permanently in hope.Move on from what isn't working. It either works or it doesn't.Hope is ok for a while, but it's not forever, we're more than that.
Having evaluated the effort required to put forward my ideas, and with zero results (implemented), it seems logical that this venture is certainly a “isn't working”.

Therefore I will now go merrily on with living my life, which is what I love doing!

Cheers!
